About Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage

The Biggest Changes in Years

In December, 2003, Congress enacted legislation that put Medicare’s Part D into place. It paved the way to bring much needed prescription coverage to beneficiaries on January 1, 2006 – bringing significant savings to people with Medicare.

Medicare prescription drug coverage works differently than Medicare Part A and Part B. To get this coverage, you’ll choose a plan like Denver Health Medical Plan Medicare Choice (HMO SNP) or Medicare Select (HMO) that are contracted with the Federal government to combine medical coverage with Part D prescription drug benefits.

The best way to start is to gather your own personal information and use the tools on this site to help you determine which plan might best fit your needs. If you haven’t already determined whether you are eligible for the extra help available to people with limited income and resources, refer to the eligibility requirements at www.socialsecurity.gov .
